Anti-Toll Rally in DuBois

Dubois, PA - At a rally held this afternoon off Interstate 80, exit 97 in Clearfield County, U.S. Congressman John E. Peterson, R-Pleasantville, stood with Glenn Thompson, Candidate for Pennsylvania's Fifth Congressional District, and Matt Gabler, Candidate for Pennsylvania's 75th Legislative District, to bring attention to recent comments made by Harrisburg politicians in regards to a plan to resubmit the Commonwealth's application to toll I-80 once a new President is elected. Peterson issued the following statement:

"For Harrisburg insiders to think that a change in Administration will have any effect on our relentless fight to keep I-80 toll free, and the Federal Highway Administration ruling, they are sadly mistaken. With the downward turn in the economy, now, more than ever before, we stand united to keep this highway toll-free and will continue to fight on behalf of the folks and businesses who call Rural Pennsylvania home.

"We need leaders in Washington and Harrisburg that understand the implications of tolling this highway and will fight at all costs to ensure that rural Pennsylvania doesn't get the short end of the stick at the expense of big city politicians in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.

"For too long, big city politicians have cut back-room deals with rural lawmakers at the expense of their constituents. A week from tomorrow, we have a chance to change the politics of the past and elect a bright young man who is dedicated to serving the needs of Elk and Clearfield Counties. Matt Gabler will always act with the best interests of his constituents at heart. Unlike his opponent who voted to toll I-80, Matt is committed to keeping this roadway toll-free and will advocate for polices that bring new jobs to the area, not drive them away with tax increases.

"I am also confident that if the Commonwealth decides to resubmit their tolling application to the Federal government, that Glenn Thompson will be as adamant, and as relentless as we have been this past year in ensuring that that the application is rejected. Having traveled this district for the past 10 months, campaigning throughout 17 counties, putting over 50,000 miles on his vehicle, Glenn understands the disastrous effects tolling I-80 would have on the residents and economy of the Fifth Congressional District and the entire Commonwealth.

"Glenn and Matt are the clear choice to continue the fight on behalf of rural Pennsylvanians in both Washington and Harrisburg. I enthusiastically support and endorse their candidacies for for Congress and the State House and look forward to working with them once elected."
