Teachers in the Bradford Area School District have a new contract.

The school board approved the contract during its meeting Monday night. It runs from July 1 through June 30, 2103.

Superintendent Sandra Romanowski says no one remembers having an "early bird" contact before.

Board president Tim Bean says additional information will be provided at a later date.

Bradford High School has a new registration guide for the next school year.

It includes two new social studies classes -- pop culture in America and contemporary issues; a sports management class; and an SAT prep course.

High School Principal Ken Coffman also said electives have been added in the English Department. He and Superintendent Sandra Romanowski commended lead teacher Dennis Morrisroe for completing this "major undertaking."

The high school is also offering advanced placement Environmental Science for the first time and is changing the name of the "grounds and maintenance" course to "natural resources management."

Coffman says this will help students looking toward careers in forestry and oil production.

Romanowski commended Coffman and the teachers for putting so much work into the project.

"We are really working very hard at the high school to make it a relevant education for our kids," she said.

Also during Monday's meeting, the board approved a sidewalk easement agreement for the Community Park Trail to build, reconstruct and maintain improvements for a 10-foot wide sidewalk and path connecting Callahan Park and Interstate Park.

Student representative Bethany Russell noted that this year's Winter Carnival will be February 13 and 14, and includes a basketball game, booths and a dance.

She also said rehearsals have started for "Seussical the Musical," which will be presented in March at the high school.

January is School Director Appreciation Month and, in recognition of that, all of the schools in the Bradford Area School District gave presentations to the school board.

The School Street Elementary Chorus, under the direction of Mike Grady, sang a song written by teacher Erin Waugaman based on "The Twelve Days of Christmas."

It starts "On the first day of school, the school board gave to us smart boards in all the class rooms."

The other nine (not eleven) items include new band equipment and air conditioning.
