J'Burg Gets State Grant Money
The Johnsonburg Municipal Authority is receiving $12.6 million to expand its regional wastewater treatment plant’s average capacity to 2 million gallons per day.
State Senator Joe Scarnati says the authority’s collection and treatment facilities are currently overloaded, and during wet weather sewer overflows bypass the system and untreated sewage ends up in the Clarion River. The Authority is currently under a consent order from the Department of Environmental Protection to correct the capacity problems.
He says the plant hasn't been upgraded in 35 years, and the overflow into the Clarion River poses serious health risks and impacts recreational activities enjoyed by local residents and those visiting our area.
State Representative Matt Gabler says the authority provides sewer service to Johnsonburg and parts of Ridgway and Jones townships, including the village of Wilcox. The Domtar paper mill in Johnsonburg also receives service for all sanitary waste, but not industrial waste.
