Kane Community Hospital (KCH) recently announced its relationship with Hamot Medical Center was growing. As the final affiliation draws near, KCH is excited to remind the local community what it has to offer.

“Many people consider traveling miles to receive care and we think it is important to remind them that the best care, clinics and services are available right here and those services are growing,” explains KCH CEO, J. Gary Rhodes.

Throughout the past 80 years, KCH has stood out as a leader in the region. KCH has chosen to invest its resources in building relationships and in obtaining top diagnostic technology, while working to reduce costs and improve the quality of primary and specialty care for all who choose the KCH Health System. KCH is in a strong position to serve the needs of its patients.

Kane Community Hospital has had the most technologically advanced diagnostic center in the area including its all digital X-ray Department, 32-slice CT, top ultrasonography, densitometry, dual-head nuclear medicine, and open MRI.

In fact, the newly added stereotatic breast biopsy suite is now complete and serving patients. Digital Mammography will be installed in the coming weeks and the MRI suite renovation is in its final stages. These are the three primary components of the Kane Community Hospital Breast Center that is set to open in the next few months.

In addition to the KCH Breast Center, there are several clinics that serve patients right in their own backyard. The expectation is that the affiliation with Hamot Medical Center will enhance the KCH clinics that are already in place in Kane, Sheffield, Mt. Jewett, Johnsonburg and Ridgway.

Kane Community Hospital is not only interested in treating those with medical needs but also providing preventative medicine through health and wellness support. The KCH fitness center offers a full complement of equipment and machines, personal coaching and individual exercise plans for weight loss and disease management. The Highmark Silver Sneakers® program at KCH exceeds national benchmarks for participation.

KCH has regained control of its rehabilitation services within the hospital and is now able to better manage the patient’s rehabilitation experience and outcomes. Some of the specialties of the rehab program include physical, occupational and speech therapy on-site for anyone who requires rehabilitation as an inpatient or outpatient, regardless of whether they were treated initially at KCH for that condition. Rehabilitation is also available through Kane Community Hospital Home Health Care.

With the solidification of the KCH-Hamot affiliation, the services that the hospitals have collaborated on for years will see further growth and new services will be brought to the community.

Over the past several months, board members, administrators and physicians of both hospitals have been working diligently to identify common programs and services that can provide enhanced access to clinical care, improve quality and efficiency, and help reduce healthcare costs.

The decade-long relationship with Hamot Heart Institute’s cardiac program will expand. The successful development of KCH’s Cardiac Rehab program is just one example of how the collaboration of KCH and Hamot’s cardiologist has benefited this community. Cardiac rehabilitation is an individualized exercise program designed to aid patients in their recovery after the diagnosis of heart disease or following procedures like stents or bypass surgery. With cardiac rehab at KCH, patients do not have to travel miles away to reap the benefits of this program.

Access to the Hamot Stroke Center and aid in recruiting physicians are two more benefits of the relationship between Hamot and KCH.

Finally, KCH is proud that Board Certified Urologist Donald H. Rudick M.D., who has served patients in the area for many years, will soon be expanding his Urology practice to Kane.

"In our 80th year of serving residents and guests of the Alleghenies with personal, professional and progressive care, we invite you to rediscover KCH,” Rhodes said.
