NY Flags at Half-Staff on August 5

Governor David A. Paterson has directed that flags on New York State government buildings be flown at half-staff on Wednesday, August 5, 2009, in honor of a Fort Drum soldier who was killed in action in Nuristan Province, Afghanistan, on July 24, 2009.

Specialist Justin Coleman of Weeki Wachee, Florida, was killed when his unit was attacked by insurgents using small arms and rocket-propelled grenades. Specialist Coleman was a member of the 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment of the 10th Mountain Division's 3rd Brigade Combat Team of the 10th Mountain Division.

"It is with great sadness that we recognize the death of Specialist Coleman, who served our country with honor and courage," said Governor Paterson. "We considered him one of our own, as we do all Soldiers who serve at Fort Drum, and on behalf of all New Yorkers I extend sympathy to his friends, family and fellow soldiers. We will honor his sacrifice."

Governor Paterson has directed the flags on all State buildings to be lowered to half-staff in tribute to the State’s service members who are killed in action.
