Auditions for 'Christmas Belles'

Auditions for the comedy “Christmas Belles” will be held Oct. 28 and 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bradford Area Public Library.

The second play in Bradford Little Theatre’s 13th season offers roles for seven women and four men, most middle-aged.

Cindy Matteson of Smethport will direct the show written by the same trio who penned BLT’s opening comedy, “The Dixie Swim Club,” which recently sold out all three performances.

The play’s award-winning writers are Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten, who spent many seasons as writer/producer of television’s classic “The Golden Girls.”

Matteson, an experienced director and current BLT secretary, said, the two-act play offers an “adult twist to our popular holiday offerings of the past.”

The full Bromeley Family Theatre at the University of Pittsburgh will be used Dec. 18-20 for a hilarious depiction of Christmas Eve in the small town of Fayro, Texas, where the three Futrelle sisters join to keep the Tabernacle of the Lamb’s Christmas program from spiraling into chaos.

Perusal scripts are available at the library.

Characters are as follows:

Honey Raye Futrelle, the eldest, oft-married, hot flash-suffering sister trying to redeem her colorful past by directing the the town pageant;

Twink Futrelle, the middle sister serving jail time for accidentally burning down half the town after being jilted by her boyfriend of 16 years;

Frankie Futrelle Dubberly, the youngest sister, in her 40s, who is overdue with her second set of twins;

Rhonda Lynn Lampley, the middle-aged manager of the Dairy Dog;

Miss Geneva Musgrave, disgruntled town florist who had directed the pageant for 27 years before being ousted for the new director;

Patsy Price, a local society matron intent on being the star of the pageant;

Gina Jo Dubberly, Frankie’s 20-something daughter;

John Curtis Buntner, deputy sheriff;

Dub Dubberly, Frankie’s husband and part-time Santa Claus who is passing a kidney stone;

Justin Waverly, young interim pastor at the Tabernacle; and

Raynerd Chisum, simple-minded pageant shepherd with his ever-present red wagon who “just loves Christmas.”

A registered non-profit organization, Bradford Little Theatre promotes, encourages and produces community-based theatre in the greater Bradford area. By making theatre available and accessible to the public, BLT provides opportunities for community participation, appreciation and education, thus enriching the community and increasing interest in the arts.

An award-winning theatre company, BLT is a member of the American Association of Community Theatres, the Theatre Association of New York State, and is a founding member of the Pennsylvania Association of Community Theatres.
