Man Hurt in Hunting Accident

A Dunkirk man had to be taken to the hospital after a hunting accident Saturday afternoon.

Chautauqua County Sheriff's deputies say 53-year-old Allen Sprague was getting into his stationary tree stand when the bottom collapsed sending him 25 to 30 feet to the ground. They say he appeared to have landed on his back and leg, injuring both.

Sprague was able to use his cell phone to contact 911 and family members and was located in the woods near abandoned railroad tracks. Sprague was transported to Brooks Memorial Hospital for treatment.
