UWBA Boosts Thermometers to 22%

The thermometers are rising, as the United Way is heating things up for campaign 2009, “Back To Basics”.

“We are pleased to announce that we are currently at 22% of our designated goal,” says Assistant Director Mandi Wilton Davis. “We’ve had a boost this week so far with pledges being received from several local entities.”

Executive Director Kelly Case added, “We are still scheduling employee presentations within many of the community’s organizations, so you’ll see the red rising relatively quickly in the coming weeks.”

Another boost for the campaign will be the Business Blitz, which is scheduled for Wednesday, October 28th.

“We are in the process of finalizing those plans,” says Case, “and we’re looking forward to the response we’ll receive from the local small businesses with bringing this day back into the forefront of United Way solicitations.”

The organization is also looking forward to the Hair-Raising Hoopla, an event coordinated within some of the local hair salons, which will offer residents assistance with their Halloween costumes in the form of hair and make-up. That event will take place on Friday, October 30 and Saturday, October 31. A list of participating salons can be obtained by visiting the United Way’s website.

“We’re pleased with the status of the appeal thus far,” says Davis. “As always, we cannot express our gratitude enough to the local residents for their continued support of our organization, and subsequently so many other agencies and programs in the local community.”
