Car Show May Move to Mall

The Street Dreams Car Club may be traveling from Main Street to the Bradford Mall.

During Monday's Foster Township Supervisors meeting, Street Dreams President Gary Hoy said the show has "outgrown Main Street," adding they had 321 cars last year and there wasn't enough room for them. He said some people even had to leave.

Foster Township Supervisor Jim Connelly Jr. said he will be contacting the managers of the mall to see if they agree to having the show there.

"It's not written in stone because I haven't talked with the mall yet," Connelly said. But he added, "This is an opportunity we can't miss. We're going to continue to try to make Foster Township grow ... Our door's open. We're welcoming new business."

There was a question as to whether the car show would be held at all when the City of Bradford enacted an ordinance that requires anyone holding an event downtown to pay a fee of at least $25 to help defray costs the city incurs. The Downtown Bradford Revitalization Corporation has offered to pay the fee for the car club.

"It's the best show in this entire area," Hoy said, adding that the Little Miss Street Dreams contest is tied into the car show. To date, the contest has raised about 30,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

"We're just waiting for you guys before we do anything," Hoy told the supervisors. "Certainly there's room for growth here, and we don't have that on Main Street."

He envisions 500 cars in the show if it's held at the mall.

Supervisor Chairman Bob Slike added that "This is the ideal spot. You're on the crossroads of all the main routes."

Slike added that at the mall, the cars will have easy access and a large parking lot.

"If we can convince the mall people, I think you guys will have a banner show down there," Slike said.

Hoy needs to know by April if the show can be held at the mall.

"Foster Township loves you, and we're glad to to have you here," Connelly said, adding that he will be contacting representatives of the mall this week.

Connelly and Slike both also talked about the success of last weekend's show at the mall -- The Kinzua Outdoor & Travel Show.

"I'd like to congratulate Diane Sheeley, the (Bradford Area) Chamber of Commerce and everybody that had anything to do with the Kinzua Outdoor Show," Slike said. "It was great to see that parking lot filled again like it used to be. Hopefully, she can continue on with those shows, because they're impressive. It's great."
