NY Senator Making Trip to PA Drilling Site
Buffalo, NY – NYS Senator Antoine M. Thompson (D-parts of Erie & Niagara Counties) heads back to Pennsylvania’s Marcellus Shale drilling site on another fact finding mission.
As chair of the Environmental Conservation Committee, State Senator Thompson recognizes that drilling for gas in the Marcellus Shale beneath New York State opens up tremendous opportunities, but also poses risks to the health, welfare and pocketbook of New Yorkers if not done properly.
On Thursday, April 28 2010, the Senator will tour a drilling site located in Towanda, PA. at 10 a.m. While there he will meet with members of Chesapeake Energy; the company responsible for drilling.
The Senator is also scheduled to arrive in Dimock, PA. at 1:30, where he will hear from residents who say they would be affected most by the drilling.
While the Marcellus Shale drilling project is being described by some as a modern day “Gold Rush”, Senator Thompson maintains that it’s important that people on both sides of this issue be heard before this potentially new energy source becomes a reality.
