Fire Damages Jackson Avenue Attic

No one was hurt in a Jackson Avenue house fire this afternoon.

Firefighters were called to 341 Jackson Avenue at about 1:30 p.m. when someone driving on Route 219 saw smoke coming from the eaves of the house and called McKean County 911.

Lt. Mike Scrivo says smoke was showing and there was fire in the attic of the three-story house when they arrived.

Kevin and Tantum McNamara and their three children, Kianna, Sabrina and Kevin, got out of the house safely.

Scrivo said the only problem caused by the frigid temperatures was that a cap froze on a fire hydrant, but water authority personnel were able to get it off.

A state police fire marshal was expected to arrive on the scene at 5:30 to determine the cause.

Scrivo said most of the damage was done to the attic, although the first and second floors did have water damage.

13 firefighters were on the scene for about two hours. Derrick City was on standby at the East Bradford station.

Scrivo said they also had two EMS calls within the first 10 minutes after the fire call. He said this is the fourth time in 3 ½ months – just on his shift – that the fire department has gotten multiple EMS calls while they were on the scene of a fire.

Service? Gold Plated "Fruit Baskets" & Early Retirement BONUSES! Overtime Pay of $$$$ PLUS VERY Generous Salaries & Health Plan Benefits. Come ALL You VOLUNTEERS and Work for the City! How Many FORMER Volunteer Firemen NOW Are City Employees? What about Telling the TAXPAYERS the WHOLE Story? Maybe the NEW Fire Chief & the Union President SHOULD Fully Inform the Mayor, Council, Controller, City Clerk, and the Taxpaying Citizens. What IS The TOTAL Cost/Benefit Ratio per TAXPAYER/Voter/Citizen? Welfare NEEDS The "Free" Ride...TAXPAYERS Can't AFFORD It Now In This ECONOMY!

You know if everyone were current on their taxes and paid their business privilege tax we wouldn't be in this shape.

Dear VERY ANGRY TASPAYER: All those benefits were put on the table by our Mayor and Council not the firemen. Didn't the firemen and city workers agreed to pay more health benefits. What department refused so what did that cost the city.
