'She Got Away With it Again'

She got away with it again.

That’s how one Summer Street resident summed up the situation with landlord Edna Hallock moving new tenants into a house that had been infested with cockroaches last year.

Steph Viola and several of her neighbors attended Tuesday’s Bradford City Council meeting to inform council that Hallock was moving people into the house.

“We went through, literally, hell this summer,” Viola said. “To know that that house sits there tenant after tenant after tenant and it’s nothing but trash – It’s getting really bad. That’s it in a nutshell.”

“I’m sick of living by this,” Viola continued. “It just broke my heart when I found out she got away with it again.”

Bradford City Fire Chief Boo Coder left the council meeting to see if the property had a certificate of compliance, which would allow it to be rented out. After the meeting, Coder said Merle Silvis and Chris Angell had inspected it, so he could not keep the new tenants from moving in.

At a Board of Health meeting in August, Code Enforcement Officer George Corignani talked about the cockroach infestation at 187 Summer Street, and ordered Hallock to have that house – and the neighbor’s homes – exterminated at her expense.

Neither Viola nor any of the neighbors have been reimbursed for the extermination, they said.

Sooo, maybe those who inspected the house should have to live there for a couple of months and see how THEY like living in a cockroach-infested house... bet they might be a little more careful in their inspections!

This should be proof beyond anybodies doubts that Code Enforcement MUST be taken out of the fire department.

Or we will just get this same old crap for another 15 years!

The Fire Department can't be trusted handling Code Enforcement!

OECD has to be able to do a better job!

I cant believe how much corruption there is in this small towns government, not to mention the gross lack of oversite and leadership in the fire department from Ross Niedich on down. What does it take to wake up the bulk of the taxpayers to this pathetic waste of our dollars! TAKE CE OUT OF THE FIRE DEPARTMENT!!!!

Wow...this is the same situation that we have going on in Shinglehouse only the roaches made it to our school! Sad part is that the Shinglehouse Borough was made aware of the problem when it first started over 5 years ago and yet nothing has been done. Guess they dont care that this family is eventually going to infest the whole town and then who is going to pay to exterminate? As a person that has already dealt with this issue because of this family I for one DO NOT and WILL NOT have to fork out money to pay for extermination again. Where is Child and Youth and Code Enforcement when you need them to take care of this issue. I think that the head-turning has gone on long enough!
