'Brand Champions' Honored at UPB
The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford on Wednesday celebrated faculty and staff who “go beyond” and chose winners among the student body who submitted homemade Pitt-Bradford videos.
At the 5th annual Go Beyond Brand Party, the Anthropology program, TRiO Student Support Services and Student Government Association were honored as this year’s Brand Champions.
Selected by Dr. Livingston Alexander, Pitt-Bradford’s president, the Brand Champions are those people who best outwardly live the university’s brand promise, which includes providing a safe, friendly and personalized campus environment.
Anthropology was recognized for the involvement of its faculty members, Isabelle Champlin, assistant professor of anthropology, and Dr. Michael Stuckart, associate professor of anthropology, beyond the classroom.
Both professors actively encourage students to study abroad and have led trips and research trips to Central and South America. Champlin volunteers her time and expertise to local historical groups and projects, and Stuckart teaches Spanish to kindergarten students. Both are past recipients of the Pitt-Bradford Alumni Association Teaching Excellence Award.
TRiO SSS has served more than 540 students since it began with a federal grant in 2005. Last summer, the federal government renewed the program’s grant for five years, which will allow TRiO to continue serving students deemed to be at a high risk for not completing college.
Members of the TRiO staff honored were Margot Myers, Carma Horner, Stacie Salerno and Hillary Stitt.
Student government was honored for its work supporting other campus clubs and organizations, particularly through Club Night, which allows students to explore the different clubs Pitt-Bradford has to offer. The SGA has also organized a drive to erect a bronze panther statue on campus.
SGA vice president Erik Austin accepted the award on behalf of SGA president Jake Loree.
Also during the brand celebration, the campus community viewed and voted on videos students created showing what made Pitt-Bradford a warm and cozy place for them.
The first-place winner was Immanuel Diamant, a biology and psychology major from New Hope, who won a 32-gigabyte iTouch.
The second place winner was Brian Roberts, an athletic training major from New Albany, who won a Sumo Omni beanbag chair.
Finally, the third-place winner was Nathan Neff, a sports medicine major from Butler, who won a bag of snuggly Pitt gear.
