DEP Fines Fire Company
DEP has reached an agreement with a Jefferson County fire deparatment that illegally burned demolition debris last August.
DEP received complaints from residents concerning smoke and odors from the illegal fire that the Big Run Area Volunteer Fire Company started to burn debris from a former commercial building adjacent to the fire hall.
DEP cited the fire department for its intentional open burning as well as smoke and odors crossing property lines. The agreement requires the fire company to pay a $5,000 penalty.
