Ray Schweizer Passes Away at Age 90
Raymond C. Schweizer, 90, of 180 Penhurst Dr. Pittsburgh, PA., formerly of 15 Thomas Road, Bradford, passed away Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Born January 30, 1921, in Buffalo he was a son of the late Charles and Gertrude (Raymond) Schweizer.
On June 25, 1947 in Buffalo he married Elizabeth "Betty" (Roarke) Schweizer who died April 24, 2005.
He was a 1938 graduate of Bennett High School in Buffalo, and later graduated with a bachelors degree in Business Administration from the University of Buffalo in 1951.
In 1943 he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corp and attended B-29 Flight Engineering School. He was honorably discharged in 1946.
He worked as a police officer in Buffalo while attending the University of Buffalo. After the service he worked for the FBI in Philadelphia. Later he began working as a Dealer Representative for the Ford Motor Company covering Upstate New York and North Western Pennsylvania. In 1964 he purchased Fairway Ford Lincoln Mercury Dealership in Bradford which he owned and operated until his retirement in 1999.
He was a member of St. Bernard Church, a member and past president of the Pennhills Club and the Rotary Club. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed extensive traveling with his wife and their close friends.
Surviving is one daughter, Marjorie "Jorie" (Omar Nabas) Murphy of Pittsburgh, one grandson Brendan R. (Jaclyn) Murphy of Pittsburgh, three sisters: Phyllis (Lee) Jones of Rochester, Kathy (Chuck) Tiffany of Buffalo, and Mary Beth (Jack) Whitehead of Phoenix AZ, two brothers: Charles (Joyce) Schweizer of Buffalo, and Robert (the late Sue) Schweizer of Chicago, and twenty five nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and one sister Virgine (the late Dan) Williams.
At the family's request there will be no visitation. Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am on Monday, February 28th, 2011 in St. Bernard Church with Rev. Leo Gallina pastor as Celebrant. Committal services and Military Honors will be accorded in St Bernard Mausoleum. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc.
