Fatal Crash Closes Part of I-90 in Erie

Updates: The deceased driver has been identified as 50-year-old William Fritchen of Grove City, Ohio.

The road re-opened at around 3 p.m.

The eastbound lanes of Interstate 90 in Erie have been closed from Exit 41 (SR89, North East) to Exit 45 (SR 20, North East/State Line) due to a fatal crash involving a tractor-trailer that was hauling corrosive material, according to PennDOT.

PennDOT did not say what kind of material the truck was hauling, but did say there is not estimated time for reopening the highway, and the closure could be long-term.

The accident happened at about 8 o’clock this morning when the rig hit a bridge, and caught on fire.
