Six Interdisciplinary Arts Students to Exhibit Final Projects at Pitt-Bradford

Six seniors in the interdisciplinary arts program at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford will exhibit their senior projects next week.

Students in the interdisciplinary arts program choose two arts areas to study and must integrate skills from both arts into their final project. All projects are free and open to the public.

Kong Ho, associate professor of art and interdisciplinary arts program director said, “It seems that just yesterday, I was watching our six interdisciplinary arts graduates searching for their individual directions, and now here they are with their nearly completed very strong and well-developed capstone projects. I am very pleased to see how they have integrated visual and performing art into their unique capstone projects which transgress the boundaries between these two historically distinct but currently converging forms of art.”

The week begins with an art and music presentation by Michael Vilogi of Clarks Summit from noon to 12:30 p.m. Monday, April 18, in the Webb/Bradford Forest Rehearsal Hall in Blaisdell Hall. A reception will follow at 12:30 p.m. in the KOA Lobby of Blaisdell Hall.

Vilogi’s project, “Hearing the Big Picture – Visualizing Tones: Music & Digital Art,” is tracks of music he recorded with the help of Blair Heimel, a Pitt-Bradford student from Coudersport, and Ernie Lim. The music is accompanied by visual art created using charcoal, pastels, ink and imaging software.

Also on Monday, three concurrent art exhibitions by seniors will open in the KOA Art Gallery. Gallery hours are from 8:30 to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday. An opening reception will be held from 1 to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, following the gallery talks by the three artists.

“Transposition: Digital Art and Music Paintings by Andrew Braeger” integrates art and music, using techniques from music to create visual works.

Braeger of Erie will give a gallery talk from noon to 12:20 p.m. Wednesday, April 20.

A second artist exhibiting in the gallery is Samila Sosic of Bradford, who will integrate art and music in “Timbre of My Life: Multimedia Exhibition by Samila Sosic.”

Sosic, a trained architect working on a second bachelor’s degree, has created 20 pieces in different media, including a mural, acrylic paintings, oil paintings, ceramic pieces, watercolor, photographs and music composition.

She will give a gallery talk from 12:20 to 12:40 p.m. Wednesday, April 20.

Adriana Vaccaro of Bradford will also exhibit an integration of art and music in “Vibrant Explosion of Latin Femininity: Paintings & Sculptures by Adriana Vaccaro.”

The exhibition will focus on Vaccaro’s perspective in Latin American women. It is a tribute to femininity that she tries to express with the choice of energetic colors and soft contours. She likes to paint women and flowers, women combined with guitars, and just women alone.

Vaccaro will give her gallery talk from 12:40 to 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 20.

On Thursday, April 21, “A Struggle Within: Stage Design by Tim Weidow” shows his sketches and three-dimensional models for stage design of three plays centering around struggle and tragedy: “Oedipus Rex” by Sophocles, “Titus Andronicus” by William Shakespeare and “Topdog/Underdog” by Suzan-Lori Parks. Weidow is from Byrnedale.

Weidow’s presentation will take place from noon to 12:30 p.m. with a reception to follow in the lobby.

The final presentation of the week will be “Theater in the Round: Theatrical Exposition by Brandon Tully,” which will integrate art and theater. Tully’s presentation – part gallery talk, part live performance – will take place from noon to 12:40 p.m. Friday, April 22, in the Studio Theater of Blaisdell Hall. Tully is from Bradford.
