St. Bonaventure Names Alumni of the Year

St. Bonaventure University presented Jean MacLeay, ’86, and Oliver “Ollie” McGonigle, ’66, with William P. “Stax” McCarthy Alumnus of the Year honors during the annual Alumni Reunion Weekend, held June 10-12 on campus.

The award is named in memory of former annual fund and alumni director William “Stax” McCarthy, ’72, and is presented to a St. Bonaventure graduate who offers continued service to the university and captures the spirit of St. Francis, St. Bonaventure and St. Clare.

“I am grateful to both of our honorees for their support and loyalty,” said Joe Flanagan, ’74, director of Alumni Services at the university. “Their leadership has helped St. Bonaventure in immense ways in their alumni chapters and here at the university.”

MacLeay, a partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers, graduated in 1986 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting.

MacLeay’s parents are also Bona grads: Her father, Ron MacLeay, graduated in 1957 and her mother, Janet, was a member of the class of 1959. MacLeay and her father set up an endowed scholarship — the Janet Shepardson MacLeay Memorial Scholarship — in memory of her mother, who passed away in 2004.

MacLeay and her husband, J.D. Oliver, have also made a major commitment to St Bonaventure’s School of Business Building Campaign.

Her volunteer efforts include being a 2011 Reunion Annual Fund volunteer, a class agent in 2000, and a matching gift corporate captain in the mid-1990s.

She lives in Virginia Beach, Va., with her husband and their son, Drew.

McGonigle, of Coronado, Calif., earned a bachelor’s degree from St. Bonaventure in 1966.

He is a retired investor who spent most of his career in Dallas, Texas, where he was also active in the Catholic community.

McGonigle has been a strong supporter of many areas of the University, including the William F. Walsh Science Center, Sandra A. and William L. Richter Center, the Department of Athletics, and the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts.

A University trustee from 1999 until 2008, McGonigle served as the Reunion Annual Fund chair in 1995, a class agent in 2000, and served for many years as the Dallas Alumni Chapter president.

His father, J. Joseph McGonigle, was a member of the SBU class of 1936.
