Corbett Tours GE Transportation in Erie

Erie – Governor Tom Corbett today toured GE Transportation, Erie County’s largest employer, where he discussed his commitment to working with Pennsylvania’s businesses to ensure future growth and job creation.

GE Transportation (GET), headquartered in Erie, provides manufacturing services for the railroad, marine, drilling, mining and energy storage industries.

“I am committed to fostering the pro-growth, pro-business environment that will ensure GE Transportation’s continued economic contribution to this region,” said Corbett. “When government works as an ally to businesses instead of working against them, we all succeed. Today, I am standing in a plant that is a great example of that success.”

GET employs nearly 6,200 employees in northwestern Pennsylvania with manufacturing facilities in Erie and Grove City. A 2010 study by Tripp Umbach found that these operations have an annual economic impact of $2.7 billion on Erie County, $3.6 billion on Northwestern Pennsylvania and $4.6 billion on the state of Pennsylvania.

“When I was elected governor, I committed to putting Pennsylvania back on track. To honor that commitment, I have focused on policies that allow business to stay and grow in our state; bringing with them jobs that Pennsylvanians need now,” said Corbett.

“GE Transportation’s success here in the region supports, directly or indirectly, one out of every 11 jobs in Erie county. The impact is undeniable, and one the commonwealth is proud to support,” Corbett added.

HARRISBURG — Attorney General Tom Corbett today announced that agents from the Attorney General’s Bureau of Narcotics Investigation, assisted by local police officers from across Erie County and the Pennsylvania State Police, are in the process of arresting 41 suspects linked to a nearly $5 million drug organization operating in and around Erie. Woman Charged with Posting
Nude Picture on Facebook

A Falconer, New York, woman is facing charges after allegedly posting a naked photo of a Warren woman on Facebook. Police say 22-year-old Lindsay Head posted the picture without the consent of the 21-year-old victim, who is dating Head's ex-boyfriend. Head is charged with dispersing obscene and sexual materials. The picture has been removed from Facebook.

Two Arrested on Drug Charges

Two people were arrested on drug charges after state police got a report about unauthorized use of a vehicle. Troopers found the vehicle in Randolph on Wednesday and arrested the driver, 31-year-old Bridget Bardo of Conewango, for aggravated unlicensed operation and criminal possession of a controlled substance. She was released on her own recognizance and scheduled to appear in Town of Randolph Court. Her passenger, 28-year-old Andrew Jaquish of Salamanca, was charged with three counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance. Police also learned there was an active warrant against him from City of Jamestown Court. He was sent to Chautauqua County Jail on $1,000 bail. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947
