Introduction to GPS and Geocaching
The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford’s Division of Continuing Education and Regional Development will hold a class on the outdoor sporting activity called geocaching.
The class will meet from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Oct. 29 at Kinzua Bridge State Park Pavilion, four miles north of U.S. Route 6 at Mount Jewett on SR 3011.
Geocaching is an activity in which participants use a Global Positioning System mobile device or other forms of navigational techniques to find and hide containers, called geocaches or caches.
In this class, participants will learn about GPSs, how to use it, how to navigate through GPS screens, how to use the GPS unit to find a geocache and geocaching etiquette.
Also, participants will partake in a mild 1.5-mile geocaching treasure hunt on the trails of Kinzua Bridge State Park. GPS equipment will be provided for use.
This class is designed for adults and youth, age 7 and older. Adults must accompany and register with youth.
The class will be held rain or shine. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes and pack a lunch. Water will be provided at the event.
There will be a $20 fee per participant.
