Four Million Gallons of Water Lost

The boil water advisory for Bradford City Water Authority customers may remain in effect for several days.

Water Authority Executive Director Kim Benjamin says the advisory will be in effect until all DEP requirements for sampling are complete.

The water authority is also asking people to conserve water until storage tanks recover to normal levels.

The 20-inch water main break in the South Center Street area caused widespread disruption of water pressure and quality throughout the system, as about 4 million gallons of water was lost.

Repairs are underway.

When you’re boiling the water, let it boil for one minute and let it cool before using.

Boiled or bottled water should be using for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water.

Turbidity has no health effects, but it can interfere with disinfection and provide a medium for microbial growth. Turbidity may indicate the presence of disease-causing organisms, including bacteria, viruses and parasites.
