Man Jailed in Connection to Attempted
Police Shooting, Wellsville Standoff
A Hornell man is in jail on charges that he helped another man accused of shooting at state troopers during a traffic stop September 27 in Hornellsville.
50-year-old Thomas McCormick was arrested Monday and sent to Steuben County Jail on $5,000 bail.
During the incident, 38-year-old Richard VanGorden of Addison fired several rifle rounds at two state troopers. He was arrested and charged with attempted murder following a police chase and three-hour standoff in Wellsville.
Police did not say what McCormick’s role was other than providing VanGorden with criminal assistance during the investigation.
