The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford will host the kickoff event for “50 and Beyond: The Campaign for the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford” on March 23 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the Bromeley Family Theater in Blaisdell Hall.

A dessert reception will be served in the lobby, and the public is invited to attend.

The event will include a brief program, a showcase of campaign priorities, a display of student artwork and a performance by the student vocal ensemble.

During the program, campaign chairpersons, Greg Booth, president and chief executive officer of Zippo Manufacturing Co., and Harvey Golubock, vice chairman of American Refining Group Inc. and president of ARG Resources Inc., will join Dr. Livingston Alexander, president of Pitt-Bradford, to introduce the purpose and goals of the campaign. Erik Austin, president of Student Government Association and a broadcast communications major from Duke Center, will address the impact of the campaign on the student experience.

Alexander said, “In 2014, Pitt-Bradford will celebrate its 50th anniversary, a significant milestone marking just how far our institution has come since its founding. Through our ‘50 and Beyond’ campaign, we seek to build on that foundation to advance strategic priorities that will position the university for another 50 years of serving students in this region and beyond.”

In setting scholarship funds as a top campaign priority, Jill McInroy-Ballard, executive director of Institutional Advancement, said, “The Institutional Advancement council and the Advisory Board are very sensitive to the needs of our students and committed to ensuring their ability to persist in fulfilling their college education.”

Ninety-four percent of Pitt-Bradford students receive some form of financial aid, and the campus recently was named one of only 150 “Best Value Colleges” in America by The Princeton Review.

In addition to various scholarship programs, other campaign priorities include capital projects, including the Harriett B. Wick Chapel, the Kessel Athletic Complex and the Marilyn Horne Archive; expansion of the Harry B. Halloran Jr. American Refining Group Energy Institute; enhancements to the hospitality management and broadcast communications academic programs; and endowments for the arts, technology and athletics.

Campaign priorities were chosen to dovetail with the goals of the campus’s five-year strategic plan, to enhance the academic program and student experience, and to keep Pitt-Bradford a competitive institution. The overall fundraising goal is $17.5 million.
