SBU Baseball Rally Falls Short

The St. Bonaventure baseball team finished up their Florida road trip by dropping their third straight game, falling to Northeastern 9-6 Monday afternoon in Winter Haven, Fla.

The Bonnies jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first, scoring three runs on four hits. Sophomore Justin Brozick led off the game with a double to left field. He later scored on junior Billy Urban's single. Urban later scored on St. Mary's, PA, senior Nick Brennen's single to right. Later in the inning, senior Mike Grieco scored on an error by the shortstop.

Northeastern picked up a run in the bottom of the second.

The Brown and White took back the run in the top of the next inning when senior Ryan Skellie stole home.

After the run at the top of the third, no one crossed the plate until the seventh inning when the Huskies exploded for eight runs on five hits to take a 9-4 lead, while chasing starter redshirt junior Eddie Gray from the game.

In the top of the ninth, the Bonnies battled, but their comeback fell short. Brozick led the inning off with a single to right, and later scored when Grieco walked with the bases loaded. Radwan later game in to score on Brennen's sacrifice fly to bring the score within two with runners on first and second, however, Skellie to the second basemen for a game ending double play.

Gray was strong early on, giving up one run through six innings. In total he give up nine runs, all earned, on fifteen hits. The lefty stuck out three and walked four in route to his first loss of the season.

Senior Jordan Crane of Emporium pitched one inning of relief, giving up one hit, walking one and striking out another.

The Bonnies finished up their road trip with a 5-5 record. They return to the diamond Friday, March 16 when they travel to Marshall for a three game series. Game time set for 4:00 p.m.
