Sunday Book Talk
Bastard Out of Carolina

In 1992 Dorothy Allison's "Bastard Out of Carolina" was a finalist for the National Book Award. It won the Ferro Grumley prize and was also made into an award-winning movie directed by Anjelica Huston.

Twenty years later the issues in the book (class, race, sexuality, child abuse and more) are just as relevant as they were in 1992. That's one reason the book's 20th Anniversary Edition has been released.

I had the pleasure of speaking with Dorothy Allison about the book and movie, and a few other things. You can listen here.
