Peterson, Billings to be Honored by UWBA

United Way officials report that John Peterson and Greta Billings will be honored at a luncheon to recognize their service to the Bradford community and support of United Way.

“Both John and Greta consistently go above and beyond for United Way. Their community service efforts to the Bradford community are outstanding,” stated Executive Director Megan Minich.

Peterson will be receiving the Red Feather Award, which was implemented to honor outstanding individuals and/or groups who have made an impact on United Way, and the community as a whole, through their day-to-day selfless attitude and commitment to exemplify the organization’s mission of community building and enhancing the quality of life in the Bradford area.

Peterson, City Clerk & Administrative Assistant to City Council for the City of Bradford, has been a long standing supporter of United Way. Peterson served on United Way’s Board of Directors from June 2001 through September 2011, serving as President of the organization for his final year on the board. “The board is delighted to honor John with this award,” continued Minich. “His overall positive attitude and commitment to bettering the Bradford community are inspiring. In addition to United Way, John has served on the board of the Bradford Area Public Library and the Advisory board for the Salvation Army, and is currently serving on the board for the Oak Hill Cemetery Association.”

As part of the award ceremony, Billings, a certified prevention specialist with Alcohol & Drug Abuse Services, will be honored with the “Excellence in Representation Award.” “Greta is such a great example of collaboration between the various community organizations,” continued Minich. “With over 20 years’ experience in her field, Greta fluently works hand in hand with the McKean County Family Centers, the McKean County Collaborative Board, and the YWCA Victim’s Resource Center, to name a few.”

The Excellence in Representation Award was created to recognize an outstanding agency representative who best exemplifies United Way’s mission within their own organization, who participates in the annual campaign, and possesses a working knowledge of United Way and how it benefits the various programs and services in the community. “Greta perfectly exemplifies the definition of the award and is a great asset to the Bradford community” added Minich. The luncheon is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on May 23rd, in the Mukaiyama University Room at Pitt-Bradford. There is a cost of $15 per person.
