Mackowski is Editor for Literary Journal

Chris Mackowski, associate professor of journalism and mass communication at St. Bonaventure University, has been selected to serve as the first-ever managing editor of Clockhouse Review, the literary journal of Goddard College.

Goddard, located in Plainfield, Vt., is launching Clockhouse Review this summer with support from the college’s alumni-run Clockhouse Writers Conference.

“Goddard has the oldest low-residency Master of Fine Arts (MFA) programs for creative writing in the country,” said publisher Tim Kenyon. “The program has continued to grow dramatically over the past few years, and the alumni wanted to help with that growth by launching the literary journal.”

Clockhouse Review is an open-submission journal that will feature fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, playwriting, and graphic storytelling. Editorial teams select pieces through a blind judging process.

As managing editor, Mackowski works with Kenyon and a staff of 15 editors and readers, and he helps coordinate the journal’s submission and selection process. Mackowski also oversees the journal’s design and layout.

Mackowski earned his MFA from Goddard in 2001. Kenyon said Mackowski was picked as managing editor because “he has an editorial as well as a literary eye.”

“St. Bonaventure’s School of Journalism has an excellent reputation, so we knew Chris was coming from a strong editorial background. We knew he would be able to handle the nuts-and-bolts aspects of publication,” Kenyon said. “As we’ve tried to find the right ‘voice’ for the journal — one that captures Goddard’s eclectic spirit — Chris has been a big part of that. He’s been really great at shaping and implementing our vision.”

The first issue of Clockhouse Review will be available for order in July through the journal’s website, www.clockhousereview.com.
