Man Accused of Assault,
Causing Ruckus at Hotel Holley

A Bradford man is accused of assaulting several people and damaging property at the Hotel Holley early this morning.

Jeffery Morton allegedly pushed an elderly handicapped man to the ground; punched another man in face multiple times; and punched other man in the head and face.

According to papers filed in District Judge Dominic Cercone’s office one man saw Morton assaulting a woman in the hallway and went to help her when Morton punched him in the face, breaking multiple bones in his face. The victim had to be taken to a trauma center for treatment.

A second man went to help the first man when Morton allegedly punched him, causing swelling on the side of his head.

Morton also allegedly threw a bar stool at the bartender, nearly hitting her and destroying the cash register.

Police say when they got to the bar area of the Holley it was “in total disarray,” and that’s when they saw the elderly, handicapped man who had to use a cane, attempting to get up off the floor.

The court papers say the bartender “appeared extremely upset and distraught.” She Morton left the bar for a short time and, when he came back, she told him it was closed. That’s when he picked up the bar stool and threw it at her. He then began yelling and threatening everyone inside the bar.

He was gone before police arrived but they found him in a car on Williams Street, where he allegedly had marijuana with him. In the police station he allegedly destroyed a chair by smashing it against the cell door, then tried to pry the fencing on the door open with the broken chair legs.

Morton is charged with one felony count each of criminal attempt at aggravated assault and aggravated assault; four misdemeanor counts of simple assault; as well as disorderly conduct, harassment, criminal mischief, possession of marijuana and institutional vandalism.

He is in McKean County Jail on $50,000 bail.

But Main St. is as safe as ever. This is one of the many reasons I do not go down town after work.

You know other than there will be just as many dirty people running from the riddle as there are cockroaches why in the help do they not close this place down. Always something happening there. I mean seriously if someone stabbed someone or beat someone's head in with a hammer at the corner bar they would shut it down...anyone remember the option house?
