Wilbur Siebert

Wilbur J. Siebert, 93, formerly of 42 Thompson Avenue, passed away Monday, July 2, 2012 at the Bradford Ecumenical Home.

Born in Roulette, he was a son of the late Harry A. and Selma (Anderson) Siebert.

On June 18, 1946 in Galveston, TX, he married First Lt. Eunice Powell, RN, who passed away April 7, 1950. On October 13, 1951 in The First Presbyterian Church in Bradford he married Lois Brown, who survives.

A 1936 graduate of Roulette High School, he attended Westbrook Commercial Academy in Olean where he graduated in 1937. He moved to Bradford and was employed as a bookkeeper for the Manufacturers Charcoal Company until he was inducted into the U.S. Army in April, 1942.

In December, 1942, he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Signal Corps and was transferred to the Army Corps of Engineers in October, 1943. He was assigned to the 260th Engineer Combat Battalion and served as Company Commander in the European Theatre of Operations. He served in France, Germany and Austria and received the Bronze Star Medal, American Campaign Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, with two battle stars, World War II Victory Medal and Army of Occupation Medal. He was honorably discharged in April, 1946 as a Captain. He served in the U.S. Army Active Reserves until his retirement from the military in 1967 as a Lieutenant Colonel.

In July 1946, he was employed as a staff accountant with George H. Daggett & Co., and was admitted a partner in the firm on May 1, 1957. He received his Certificate of Certified Public Accountant in March, 1958. He continued in that capacity until his retirement on January 31, 1984.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church since October, 1951 and served as an Elder and Trustee as well as serving as Church Treasurer for 20 years.

He was a past director, secretary and treasurer of the Bradford Rotary Club. He was appointed to the Bradford Zoning Board in 1966 and served until 1996. He served as director and treasurer of the Greater Bradford Senior Activity Center, director of the Bradford Ecumenical Home, director and past Secretary and Treasurer of the Area Transportation Authority. He was a member of the Bradford Club, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Pennsylvania Institute of CPA's as well as various military reserve organizations. In 2002, along with his wife, he established The Siebert Family Scholarship fund at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Joseph R. (Linda) Siebert, of Kirkland, WA; a daughter, Sally Siebert, of Nicholasville, KY; two grandchildren, Erin Siebert and Matthew Siebert, both of Kirkland, WA and a nephew, James Ostrom of Roulette. In addition to his parents and his first wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Siebert and a sister, Marie Ostrom.

Friends are invited to call from 4-6 PM, Thursday, July 5, 2012 in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc., South Avenue. Funeral and committal services will be held at 11 AM Friday, July 6, 2012 in the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. W. LeRoy Beckes, Pastor officiating. Military Honors will be accorded in the sanctuary following the service. Burial will be in Willow Dale Cemetery.
