Toddler Hurt in Smethport Accident

A 3-year-old and boy and the driver of a car were hurt in a crash on Route 46 near Smethport Tuesday afternoon.

Police say at just before 2 o’clock 24-year-old James Neely of Smethport was traveling south when he swerved to miss a pickup truck that was entering the road from the shoulder. The tires on the car broke traction, causing it to spin, hit a drainage ditch, and hit an embankment. It bounced off the embankment and came to rest partially blocking the road.

Neely, the toddler and a baby were taken by ambulance to BRMC for treatment of unspecified injuries.

Police are looking for the pickup truck, and say the driver will be cited for entering the road illegally.
