Luzzi , Reiley to Receive Red Feather Award
“I am so proud to announce this recognition for two women whose services to this organization date back several years,” said Executive Director Mandi Wilton Davis. “Jane and Mary – although at different times – both paved the way for outstanding volunteerism and leadership for our local United Way, and they continue today to be strong supporters of our efforts.”
The Red Feather award was implemented to honor outstanding individuals and/or businesses who have made an impact on the united Way, and the local community as a whole, through their day-to-day selfless attitude and commitment to exemplify the organization’s mission of enhancing the quality of life in the greater Bradford area.
Vonda Reese, President of the Board, commented on how the two women have humbly and quietly been fierce leaders.
“We mention ‘selfless attitude and commitment’ in the description of this award, and these two ladies have it all,” said Reese. “I’ve enjoyed looking at their accomplishments during their time in their respective capacities with the United Way of the Bradford Area, but I’ve also enjoyed looking at who has followed in their footsteps and the successes that have been achieved because of their involvement.”
Reiley, the Chief Financial Officer of McCourt Label Company, became involved with the UWBA in the late 1970’s. She took part in the business and corporate solicitations, and served on the allocations committee. She eventually served two terms on the Board of Directors, where she led the organization as the first female President. She has previously served on the Board of Directors for the McKean-Potter Counties Chapter of the American Red Cross, The Guidance Center, the YWCA of Bradford and the Bradford Area Public Library. Currently, she’s a member of the Beacon Light Behavioral Health System’s Board.
She resides in Bradford with her husband, Tim, and has two adult daughters, Jane and Celia.
Luzzi, the Human Relations Manager for McCourt Label, also became affiliated with the United Way through campaign cabinet roles before serving two terms on the Board of Directors. She served as campaign chair in 1996, where she led a volunteer team to raise more than $416,000 for local agencies and programs.
She resides in Bradford with her husband, Lou. She has a son, Sal, and daughter-in-law, Shannon; step-daughter, Kristina; and grandsons, Paul, Alec and Andy.
Today, both women remain active in the UWBA’s special events and campaign efforts at McCourt Label Company.
For their part, Luzzi and Reiley said the culture of the United Way and the people who are affiliated with it are what keep them active.
“There has always been a culture of caring and responsibility with this organization,” they said. “There are a lot of good people doing good things here.”
The Red Feather luncheon will be held in the Mukaiyama University Room at the University of Pittsburgh Bradford, beginning at 12:00 pm. The cost is $25 per person, and reservations may be made through April 22nd by calling Mandi Wilton Davis at 368-6181 or emailing mandi.davis@uwbanews.org.
