Toomey Meets with 'Fix the Debt'

U.S. Senator Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) discussed solutions to return our country to a sustainable fiscal path with members of the Pennsylvania chapter of Fix The Debt this morning in Allentown.

Senator Toomey met with Pennsylvania Fix The Debt co-chairs T.J. Rooney, a former state representative from Northampton County and immediate past chair of the Pennsylvania Democratic Party, and Thom Rippon, a central Pennsylvania entrepreneur and former GOP candidate for lieutenant governor as well as other members.

The Campaign to Fix The Debt members support a bipartisan solution to our nation’s debt through reform of taxes, entitlements and government spending.

“Our government is heading toward a fiscal crisis and now is not the time to take out yet another credit card," Senator Toomey said. "The fact is, we have a burden of debt that is costing us jobs and economic growth in this country. We don't have the luxury of simply passing the tab to our children and grandchildren and continuing to borrow and spend as usual. I appreciate hearing from members of Fix The Debt about how we can rein in out-of-control spending and form ideas to fix our long-term debt and deficits.”

"In order to solve the nation's big problems, it's going to require bipartisan solutions. I am grateful to Senator Toomey for taking the time to hear our thoughts and for allowing us to explain that millions of Pennsylvanians and Americans lie in the middle. We appreciate Senator Toomey's thoughtful approach,” said T.J. Rooney, co-chair of Pennsylvania’s chapter of Fix The Debt.

"We are very encouraged by Senator Toomey's legislative agenda and the stances he has taken on fiscal and tax issues. We appreciate Senator Toomey's openness to meet with the Fix the Debt-PA Coalition this morning,” said Thom Rippon, the organization’s other co-chair.

Also attending the meeting were Bill Spence, chairman, president & chief executive officer, PPL; Joanne Raphael, senior VP and chief external affairs officer, PPL; Chuck Stinner, VP of Taxes for Air Products; Scott Crocco, senior VP & chief financial officer, Air Products; and Tim Holt, director of corporate relations, Air Products.
