OV Teacher to Participate in
Teachers for Global Classrooms Program

Teacher Laura Cochran from Oswayo Valley School District was selected to take part in the Teachers for Global Classrooms Program (TGC) sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA). Ms. Cochran was among 84 teachers from across the country selected to participate.

The Teachers for Global Classrooms Program is an exchange and professional development opportunity for secondary school teachers sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and administered by the non-profit organization IREX. Through the program, teachers from across the United States learn how to advance their schools’ global education practices, internationalizing teaching and learning in their classrooms.

Following the teachers’ completion of an online course last fall, the participants gathered along with many of their principals and district administrators in Washington, D.C. for a Global Education Symposium. This spring and summer the U.S. teachers will learn with, and from, their colleagues in other countries to develop international knowledge and skills. The U.S. teachers will participate in a two-to-three week professional experience in Brazil, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Morocco, or Ukraine. The teachers will reconvene in October in Washington, DC, to share their experiences and to discuss best practices for internationalizing U.S. schools.

Ms. Cochran traveled to Ghana in March. She shared portions of her international experience through a travel blog found at https://cochranscience.wordpress.com/ . She will be speaking about her experiences on Monday, June 10, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. at the Coudersport office of the Potter County Education Council. Pre-registration is not required. Woman Charged with Posting
Nude Picture on Facebook

A Falconer, New York, woman is facing charges after allegedly posting a naked photo of a Warren woman on Facebook. Police say 22-year-old Lindsay Head posted the picture without the consent of the 21-year-old victim, who is dating Head's ex-boyfriend. Head is charged with dispersing obscene and sexual materials. The picture has been removed from Facebook.

Two Arrested on Drug Charges

Two people were arrested on drug charges after state police got a report about unauthorized use of a vehicle. Troopers found the vehicle in Randolph on Wednesday and arrested the driver, 31-year-old Bridget Bardo of Conewango, for aggravated unlicensed operation and criminal possession of a controlled substance. She was released on her own recognizance and scheduled to appear in Town of Randolph Court. Her passenger, 28-year-old Andrew Jaquish of Salamanca, was charged with three counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance. Police also learned there was an active warrant against him from City of Jamestown Court. He was sent to Chautauqua County Jail on $1,000 bail. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947
