Man Jailed for Shovel Attack, Knife Threat

A man is in jail without bail after hitting another man in the head with a shovel and threatening a 14-year-old with a knife.

Sheriff’s deputies say at about 4 o’clock this morning 33-year-old James Hall of Ashville, New York, hit a 29-year-old man in the head with the shovel, causing serious injury. Before the assault he brandished a knife toward the teenager. He also damaged a vehicle. Hall ran away before deputies arrived, but Lakewood-Busti Police found him a short distance from the scene and took him into custody.

The victim was taken to an out-of-the-county trauma center.

Hall is charged with assault, criminal mischief, menacing and endangering the welfare of a child.
