Phone Scam in Cattaraugus County

The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office is alerting the public to a phone scam in the area.

They say residents are receiving phone calls from people saying they are from the federal government and that they have won federal grant money. Residents are being instructed to go to a Western Union and wire $250 to receive their “grant prize money.”

People receiving these calls should never give out personal information or wire any funds. If you are a victim of this scam, notify your local law enforcement office.
