Scarnati, Cawley to Kick Off Fifth Annual
Charity Bike Ride to Benefit Children’s Hospitals

HARRISBURG - Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati (R-Jefferson) and Lieutenant Governor Jim Cawley will once again host a three-day, 100-mile charity bike ride from Gettysburg to Annville to raise money for three children’s hospitals in Pennsylvania.

Scarnati explained that this is the fifth annual charity bike ride for children’s hospitals. Money raised during the ride will go to the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and the Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital.

“Over the past four years, through the generous contributions of many people, organizations and businesses we have raised more than half a million dollars for the children’s hospitals,” Scarnati said.

“These hospitals provide outstanding health care to numerous children from Pennsylvania and across the country as well,” Scarnati continued. “My family has experienced first-hand the exceptional and compassionate care provided by the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, and it’s an honor to ride for them as well as the other two facilities. Each hospital helps thousands of families receive the finest quality of care every year.”

According to Scarnati, so far this year more than $120,000 has been raised for the hospitals, and over 40 riders will be taking part in the three-day event.

“These are a great three days with great people biking for great cause,” Cawley said. “I am honored to work with Senator Scarnati in organizing the event and raising hundreds of thousands of dollars to help provide quality health care to Pennsylvania children who need it the most.”

The schedule will be as follows:

September 14 — Gettysburg Battlefield to York
September 15 — York to Hershey
September 16 — Hershey to Annville

Scarnati said contributions to the Scarnati/Cawley 100 can be made payable to Scarnati/Cawley 100 and mailed to The Foundation for Enhancing Communities, PO Box 678, Harrisburg, PA 17108. Donations can also be made online through PayPal.
