Man Jailed for Attacking Estranged Wife,
Threatening Police Officers, ER Staff

A Bradford man is in jail for pulling a chunk of hair out of his wife’s head and then threatening to kill her and the police officers who responded to the incident.

42-year-old Richard Buterbaugh is accused of breaking into his estranged wife’s home and assaulting her to the point that she had to be taken to BRMC by ambulance. According to papers filed in district judge Dominic Cercone’s office, the hair pulled from the woman’s head may result in long-term disfigurement. She already had a protection from abuse order against him, which he previously violated. He was out on parole for that violation.

When police arrived on the scene at just after 11 o’clock last night, Buterbaugh attempted to tackle one officer and struggled with two officers as they were trying to handcuff him. A third officer had to use a stun gun on him. Buterbaugh was also taken to BRMC for cuts to his hands, but was then threatening to kill the police officers and ER staff. While fighting with police, who had to hold him down, he was screaming that he had been drinking and doing cocaine all night at a local bar.

He is charged with felony counts of burglary, criminal trespass and aggravated assault, as well as several other charges including resisting arrest, false imprisonment and terroristic threats.

He was sent to McKean County Jail on $100,000 bail.
