Natural Gas Leak in Kane

Firefighters were called to a natural gas leak in Kane at just before noon today.

People in the vicinity of 1 Oak Street were being evacuated and nearby Route 6 was closed.

After the gas company arrived and turned off the gas, the evacuations were halted at about 12:30 p.m., and people were allowed to return to their homes.

A motor vehicle accident caused the leak. We'll have more information on that as soon as possible.
