Man Pleads Guiltly to Stabbing

The man who stabbed another man at an Olean bar and hid from police for about 10 hours, prompting a lockdown of Olean High School, has pleaded guilty in Cattaraugus County Court.

34-year-old Khuong Nguyen stabbed 48-year-old Joseph Gilroy in the head and back while they were near The Press Box in the early morning hours of April 3. When police confronted Nguyen he ran from them, initiating the search by city police, state police and sheriff’s deputies. He was eventually arrested at his home, which is near the school. Nguyen is scheduled for sentencing on August 25.

Gilroy was treated for his injuries at Olean General Hospital and then released.
