Vocal Jazz Group at Quick Center

The vocal jazz group Avante will perform at St. Bonaventure University’s Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov.15. The performance is the third concert of the 2014-15 Friends of Good Music season.

Based in Durham, N.C., the eight singers of Avante will perform a unique repertoire, ranging from contemporary choral works to cutting- edge jazz with a modern flair.

Routinely praised for its high standard of musicianship and unique arrangements, Avante released its debut CD “Mackie’s Back” in 2014, upon which Singers.com commented: “Avante has a confident, fresh sound, surprising arrangements and a love of creating beautiful harmonies that shows. An impressive debut album from fast-rising Avante.” The CD will be on sale at the concert. Classical Voice of North Carolina, in concert review, stated, “The vocal quality and range of all eight musicians was extraordinary.”

One of Avante’s founders, noted singer and chorus director Kevin Badanes, hails from Olean and his return is eagerly awaited by his many friends in the area.

Friends of Good Music is holding a reception for its subscribers in The Loft, located on the third floor of the Quick Center, following the concert. Single ticket holders are welcome to attend at the nominal fee of $5.

Individual concert tickets are $20 at full price, $16 for senior citizens and St. Bonaventure employees, and $5 for students. For tickets and more information, call the Quick Center at (716) 375-2494.

For each Friends of Good Music performance, The Quick Center will open its galleries one hour before the performance and keep them open throughout the intermission. Regular gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Museum admission is free and open to the public year round. For more information, visit www.sbu.edu/quickcenter.
