Local Emergency Planning Committee Meets

(News Release) SMETHPORT – The McKean County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) met on December 6, 2013 at the County EMA facility. Representatives from McKean County Emergency Management, Pennsylvania DEP, Zippo, W.R. Case and Sons Cutlery, American Red Cross, American Refining Group, FCI Mckean and Allegheny Bradford Corporation were in attendance. The LEPC was formed in accordance with PA Act 165 of 1990 and the Federal Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA) Title III. The primary roles of the LEPC are preparing plans dealing with the release of Extremely Hazardous Substances from facilities utilize these chemicals, the collection and use of chemical fees from industries to support Hazardous Materials Response needs in the county. Burglary, Theft in Lewis Run

Police are investigating a burglary at Kightlinger Excavating in Lewis Run. They say sometime between 6:30 Saturday evening and 6:30 this morning someone went into the garage at 30 Main Street and stole a number of inspection stickers, invoices and money. Police say force was not used to get into the building. No damage was reported. The estimated loss is $420. Police are also investigating a theft at Allegheny Bradford in Lewis Run. Sometime between May 13 and June 13 someone removed two 2 ½ liter bottles of a known chemical from a storage area. The estimated value of the items is $32. State police are looking into a case of theft and access device fraud at Allegheny Bradford Corporation in Lewis Run. They say between February 22 and March 4 fraudulent charges were discovered on a company credit card. The charges totaled almost $932. McCune Elected as Chairman of
Upper Allegheny Health System Board

Daniel McCune, president and CEO of Allegheny Bradford Corp, has been elected chairman of the Upper Allegheny Health System board of directors. McCune was originally appointed to the Bradford Regional Medical Center board of directors in 1999. McCune succeeds David Prince, founder and president of Databranch, Inc., an information technology solutions provider located in Olean, NY. Prince joined the Olean General Hospital board in January 2003, and has served as chairman of the board of directors for Upper Allegheny Health System since its inception in 2009. Man Jailed for Stealing from ABC

A Bradford man is in jail after stealing drill bits from Allegheny Bradford Corporation in Lewis Run. In a fax sent to WESB and The HERO, police say about 9:45 Thursday night 30-year-old Michael Cary went to Allegheny Bradford to remove his personal tools. A supervisor escorted Cary from the property and told him not to return. Police say Cary did return a short time later and stole a shoebox containing numerous assorted carbine drill bits valued at $300 to $400. He was found at his home and arrested on charges of theft, receiving stolen property and trespassing. His bail is set at $10,000.

ABC Shows Off New Facility

Dan McCune, president and CEO of Allegheny Bradford Corporation, shows off a tank that will hold purified water for pharmaceutical giant Merck & Company. Merck will use the $600,000 tank during production of Gardasil, a vaccine that helps guard against cervical cancer. Lewis Run Mayor Albert Montecalvo is one of the people looking on during McCune's tour of the plant. McCune said representatives from Merck spent a week at the Lewis Run plant simulating their manufacturing process using the tank. Another one of the projects ABC is currently working on is making modules that will be shipped to China to make Hepatitis B vaccine. During today's open house to show off the new Lincoln Drive facility, McCune said people would be hard pressed to get through a year without taking a medication Allegheny Bradford had a part in manufacturing.
