A Sunday afternoon crash in Warren County took the life of a Corry man. Police say 51-year-old Ronald Baker was driving his 1968 Corvette at a high rate of speed on Route 957 near Happy Town Road at 5:15 p.m. when the car went out of control while rounding a curve, rolled over and caught fire. The man who was sentenced to death for kidnapping and killing a Corry woman back in 1988 has died of natural caused at the State Correctional Institution at Greene County in Waynesburg. 65-year-old David Copenhefer died Sunday, according to the state Deparatment of Corrections. Copenhefer held 37-year-old Sally Weiner for ransom, demanding money from her husband, who was a banker. HARRISBURG - Agents from the Attorney General?s Bureau of Narcotics Investigation and police from the City of Corry have arrested an Erie County man following the discovery of a suspected indoor marijuana growing lab and hallucinogenic mushroom operation inside his trailer home. Attorney General Linda Kelly identified the defendant as Mark Michael Varasso, age 62, of 13695 West Washington St., Lot 27, Corry. According to the criminal complaint, Varasso was arrested today as agents and local police officers executed a search warrant on his Corry home. Investigators located 24 suspected marijuana plants, along with "grow lights" and hydroponic plant growing materials in the bedroom and closest of his residence. Agents also located three plastic bins in the kitchen area of the home which contained suspected Psilocybin mushrooms. A Corry teenager is dead after the car she was driving crashed this morning in Wayne Township. Police say 16-year-old Brittany Fletcher was driving her car on Carter Hill Road at around 7:20 a.m. when it went out of control, went off the road and hit some trees. Erie County Deputy Coroner Scott Rooker pronounced her dead at the scene.
