HARRISBURG – Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati (R-Jefferson) has issued the following statement regarding the Flatirons Development, LLC decision concerning the Brandon-Day well: “Flatirons Development, LLC, has agreed to discontinue Marcellus drilling operations of the Brandon-Day well which is located upstream of the Brockway Borough Municipal Authority Rattlesnake Reservoir. The existing bore hole will be abandoned, sealed and reclaimed to eliminate the possibility of watershed contamination. “This recent decision by Flatirons Development to stop plans for drilling at the Brandon-Day well is a good and responsible decision for our community. Earlier this year after taking part in numerous discussions and meetings regarding this well, I reached out to the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to express serious reservations with permitting any further drilling at the proposed site or any nearby site which could potentially compromise the reservoir. “Toby Creek W...

State Senator Joe Scarnati (R-25) and State Representatives Sam Smith (R-66) and Matt Gabler (R-78) are urging residents to take part in an upcoming public meeting that will focus on a proposal by Flatirons Resources to drill a Marcellus Shale well in Brockway. The Department of Environmental Protection is holding the meeting at 6 p.m. on Wednesday February 22 at Brockway Area Junior/Senior High School. “This is a great opportunity for Brockway residents to learn more about the permitting process, DEP’s role in enforcement and how the company plans to implement environmental protections,” Scarnati said. “Our goal throughout the development of this growing industry has been to ensure public safety and protect our natural resources. Someone did about $20,000 worth of damage to Brockway Water Authority property over the weekend, and a $5,000 reward is being offered for the arrest and conviction of whoever is responsible. State police say the incident happened between 6 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday at a construction site for a fresh water holding pond for gas production company Flatirons Development of Denver, Colorado. The person or people damaged heavy equipment belonging to Force Inc. of Indiana, PA, by shooting the windows of the equipment and placing unknown substances in the fuel tanks. They also drove a compactor over a fence belonging to Flatirons and a portable toilet owned by T H Port-A-John of Mahaffey. They also stole two 5-pound fire extinguishers. Force is offering the reward. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact state police at 776-6136.
