The annual Easter Egg Hunt sponsored by Bradford City Firefighters Local 655 will be held at Callahan Park Saturday April 19 starting at 11 a.m. Rain or shine. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

The First Presbyterian Church of Bradford, 54 East Corydon St., will hold services during next week, Holy Week, in the celebration of Easter. Palm Sunday will be observed this coming Sunday during both Chapel service at 8:45 am and Sanctuary service at 11:00 am. On this Sunday, Christians celebrate the triumphal entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem the week before his death and resurrection. For many Christian churches, Palm Sunday (often referred to as “Passion Sunday”) marks the beginning of Holy Week which concludes on Easter Sunday. Maundy Thursday will be observed on Thursday, April 17th, beginning at 6:30 p.m. with a choral meditation by the Cathedral Choir. The Tenebrae Service (service of darkness) will begin at 7:00 p.m. and will include the Sacrament of Communion. This service serves as a remembrance of the last time the disciples met with their Lord, bringing to mind the reality of him accepting the disciples’ flight, the hate of his enemies, and his forthcoming death ...

Bradford City Firefighters Local 655 held their annual Easter Egg Hunt Saturday morning in Callahan Park. The Kentucky Derby is called "The Fastest Two Minutes in Sports." Check out our video to see why annual event could be called "The Fastest Two Minutes in Easter Egg Hunting." These young ladies were among the hundreds hunting eggs. The First Presbyterian Church of Bradford, 54 East Corydon Street, will be sponsoring a Lenten Luncheon Studies Series each Wednesday during Lent, beginning February 29th, from 12:10 p.m. to 12:50 p.m. This series will continue through April 4, 2012. This Studies Series will be led by Rev. Lee Beckes of The First Presbyterian Church and Rev. Stacey Fussell of The Church of the Ascension. Participants are invited to bring a brown bag lunch and beverages will be provided. Lent, in the Christian tradition, is the period leading up to Easter. Lent is a time of sacrifice for Jesus and is the traditional time for the preparation of the believer through prayer, penitence, and self-denial, leading to the annual commemoration of Holy Week, culminating in Easter. Conventionally, Lent is described as being forty days long, representing the time that Jesus spent in the desert before beginning his public ministry. All are welcome to attend. This young lady gets ready to hunt for some Easter eggs at the Callahan Park ice rink Saturday morning. The Bradford City Firefighters Local 655 annual egg hunt had to be held inside because of the weather, but no one seemed to mind.

The Bradford City Firefighters Easter Egg Hunt has been postponed until April 23 at 11 a.m. at Callahan Park. The Lewis Run Easter Egg Hunt will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow, APril 17. If it rains, the hunt will be held at Evans Memorial United Methodist Church

The organizers of Saturday’s Easter egg hunts are waiting until morning to decide if the events will go on as scheduled, or if the anticipated rain will move them to other dates. In case of rain, the hunt at the Lewis Run Borough Park will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday. The Bradford City Firefighters Local 655 hunt scheduled for 11 a.m. at Callahan Park would be moved to April 23. We’ll let you know the status of the hunts in the morning.

The Easter Bunny will be at the Kane Area Community Center Saturday from 9-12 to help the KACC with their Annual Spring Fund Raiser, “The Easter Bunny’s Pancake Party”. All you can eat pancakes, Easter Crafts to make and silly Bunny fun to be had. Bring the whole family and help support the center. You’re never too young or too old to visit the Easter Bunny!

Cost of the games is 25 cents each.

Just a reminder that the Bradford City Firefighters' annual Easter Egg hunt is scheduled for tomorrow at Callahan Park. The hunt starts at 11 a.m., and we should have good weather for it -- sunny with a high in the mid- to upper 40s. Every participant from age 2 through 10 will get an Easter basket in a bag.

St. Bernard's Church

Bradford City Firefighter Butch Kreiner (above) corrals some kids who are overly eager Easter egg hunters and just waiting for the siren to blow to start the hunt. This was the Firefighters' Local 655 41st Annual Easter Egg Hunt. It was held at Callahan Park. This is the 2- to 4-year-old age group. They also had groups for 5 to 7 year olds and 8 to 10 year olds. The videos aren't very long, but you get the idea:

Area Christians participated in the annual Good Friday Cross Walk this afternoon in downtown Bradford. This part of the walk was from St. Bernard's Church to the First Presbyterian Church. Other churches along the walk were the First United Methodist, First Baptist, Church of the Ascension and Hill Memorial United Methodist.
