Several Elk County companies have received Governor’s ImPAct Awards. GKN Sinter Metals, which has facilities in St. Marys and Kersey, as well as Emporium in Cameron County, received a Community Impact Award. Penn Pallet in St. Marys received an Entrepreneur Award. Metco Industries of St. Marys received a Jobs First Award. St. Marys Carbon received a Small Business Impact Award. American Refining Group, Kessel Construction, Luminite and B&T Contractors in Bradford, as well as Zook Motors and Flickerwood Wine Cellars in Kane were finalists for the awards. Governor Tom Corbett today recognized 50 outstanding Pennsylvania companies and entrepreneurs for creating jobs, developing ideas, reaching new markets and making positive contributions in local communities. Saturday at FlickerFest at the Flickerwood Wine Cellars & Lounge in Kane the Zampogna family unveiled their new wine, Kinzua Journey, a semi-sweet white wine. A portion of the proceeds from sales of the wine will be donated to the Allegheny National Forest Visitors Bureau to help promote tourism in McKean County and the ANF Region. By SANDRA RHODES Visitor & Member Services Allegheny National Forest Visitors Bureau Tourism in McKean County uncorks many possibilities for business here so it only seems fitting that a new wine was unveiled Tuesday night during Allegheny National Forest Visitors Bureau’s Spring Fling to celebrate National Tourism Week. Kinzua Journey, a new wine developed by Flickerwood Wine Cellars & Lounge in Kane, is now for sale with part of the proceeds to be donated to the ANFVB to help support tourism in McKean County. Tourism is the second largest industry in Pennsylvania. Two University of Pittsburgh at Bradford professors have received a $47,400 grant to study the Pennsylvania Wine Industry. James Dombrosky, assistant professor of hospitality management, and Dr. Shailendra Gajanan, associate professor of economics, received the grant from The Center for Rural Pennsylvania. The center works with various government groups and organizations to maximize resources for Pennsylvania’s 3.4 million rural residents. In part, it sponsors research projects, collects data on trends in rural Pennsylvania and publishes information and research results about diverse people and communities in rural Pennsylvania. Unlike other grant-giving organizations, the center does not put out an open call for proposals. Instead, the center chooses topics of importance to the state, then solicits proposals from faculty members at the states’ rural universities. 02/28/08 - Husband, Wife Jailed on Murder Charges A Sinnemahoning woman is in jail on murder charges for allegedly providing drugs to a woman who died on New Year's Day. 28-year-old Shawna Coffman is accused of crushing up several pills and giving the substance to 38-year-old Melissa Marshall during a New Year's Eve party. Marshall was found unresponsive at 9 o'clock the next morning, and was later pronounced dead at an area hospital. An autopsy showed that she died of cardiac arrest, exacerbated by multiple drugs in her system, including cocaine, oxycodone and alcohol. Coffman's husband, Jesse Coffman is also charged with drug delivery resulting in death.
