The St. Bonaventure Department of Athletics held its annual senior banquet on Wednesday evening to celebrate and honor all of its graduating student-athletes and support staff. Each year, four awards are presented: Service Award, Ray Dee Leadership Award, Merit Award (male and female) and Letterwinner Award (male and female). Below is a description of each award and the winner(s) for this year. Service Award – Matt Moretti The Service Award is presented annually to a graduating senior for outstanding service, dedication and commitment to the Department of Athletics. It may go to either a student-athlete or to a non-athlete. Moretti made an impact in the Athletics Department although he was not a student-athlete. He interned in the Sports Information Office while also working as a manager for the women’s basketball team, attending all practices and games. He served as the event coordinator for Brown and White Night in October to kick off the basketball seasons, and also was responsible ...

NEW ORLEANS – St. Bonaventure senior Jessica Jenkins had her career in the Brown and White come to a close Thursday night in the semifinal round of the State Farm 3-Point Championship. After tallying 15 points in the opening round, the Ohio native scored just 12 in the semifinals to finish three points shy of advancing to the final. USC's Ashley Corral won the women's competition, while Northwestern's John Shurna claimed the overall title with a 24 in the championship round against Corral. Jenkins entered the event as the nation's active leader in career 3-pointers made with 338, but struggled to get going in the semifinal as she knocked down just one of the five bonus balls which were worth two points each. The women's 3-point shootout began in 1992, and just one previous Bonaventure player had participated – Suzie Dailer in 1995 – and she won the championship. CHICAGO - St. Bonaventure guard Jessica Jenkins will cap off an illustrious senior season by participating in the State Farm Women's 3-Point Championship Thursday night on the campus of Tulane in New Orleans. The competition will be part of the 24th Annual State Farm Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships, traditionally held the Thursday before the Final Four in the event's host city. For the first time ever, ESPN will air the event live from 9-11 p.m. Jenkins will join Purdue's Brittany Rayburn, USC's Ashley Corral, Louisville's Becky Burke, Michigan State's Taylor Alton, Toledo's Courtney Ingersoll and South Carolina's Markeshia Grant in the contest, with possible additions coming in the next day. TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Keep pinching yourself if you must, but all you'll get out of it is a nasty bruise. This isn't a dream. St. Bonaventure (31-3) is in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament. The Bonnies survived a last-gasp 3-pointer and defeated 13th-seeded Marist, 66-63, Tuesday night in the Second Round of the tournament. They will face top-seeded Notre Dame (32-3) Sunday in Raleigh, N.C at 2:30 p.m. Senior Jessica Jenkins drilled six 3-pointers and scored 22 points, and sophomore Doris Ortega (13 points) grabbed 10 rebounds to lead a dominant performance on the boards by the fifth-seeded Bonnies, who outrebounded Marist, 40-26. "Coach told me before the game I'd be able to crash the boards because they ball watch sometimes, and I knew how important those (extra) possessions could be," said Ortega, who had five of SBU's 15 offensive rebounds. St. Bonaventure senior Jessica Jenkins has been named as one of just 30 finalists for the Naismith Women's College Player of the Year, Atlanta Tipoff Club members announced on Wednesday. The award, presented by AT&T, is given annually to the best player in Division I women's college basketball. Jenkins – who leads the Bonnies in scoring this year at 14.3 per game – is one of just five players on the list from non-BCS schools. The Naismith recognition came just hours after Jenkins was named to the Atlantic 10 First Team and Academic All-Conference Team earlier on Wednesday. Jenkins is the only player from the A-10 who was named a finalist. The Marion, Ohio, native currently owns the second-most career 3-pointers in the nation with 321, a total which ranks her 18th on the all-time NCAA list. On the coattails of a record-breaking regular season, a trio of St. Bonaventure women's basketball players were named to Atlantic 10 All-Conference teams on Wednesday, and Jim Crowley was named the league's Coach of the Year. Seniors Jessica Jenkins and Megan Van Tatenhove were chosen to the A-10 First Team and All-Academic Team, while junior Alaina Walker earned a spot on the All-Defensive Team. Jenkins and Van Tatenhove become just the third and fourth players in program history to land on the First Team, joining Hilary Waltman and Dana Mitchell, who rank No.1 and No. 2, respectively, on the program's all-time scoring list. Walker becomes the first player in program history to be named to the All-Defensive Team – an honor incepted by the A-10 for the 2001-02 season. The U.S. Basketball Writers Association has selected St. Bonaventure guard Jessica Jenkins as its Women's National Player of the Week for games ending the week of Sunday, Jan. 22. As the Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Week, Jenkins was nominated for the weekly award, which was chosen by a representative of the USBWA board of directors from a list of Division I conference players of the week. Jenkins, a 5-8 senior from Marion, Ohio, set the Atlantic 10 record for career 3-pointers at 293 after she knocked down six as part of the 23 points she scored in Saturday's win at Charlotte. She also had 18 points and four 3-pointers in the previous win over Richmond last Wednesday. She is the Bonnies' leading scorer with a 14.7 average and is fifth in the Atlantic 10 in scoring, helping the Bonnies (18-2, 5-0 Atlantic 10) to first place in the conference.
