Free Camp for Bradford Kids

Camp Penuel East is opening up a week of camp to reach the Bradford community. Camp Penuel is a Christian, non-denominational, non-profit camp located in Eldred, Pennsylvania. The goal of the camp is to reach inner city kids from the entire United States northeast region and teach Biblical principals while providing children with a standard camp experience. Camp Penuel has been in existence for over 4o years, it serves 600- 700 children each summer. There is no charge for this camp. Children must be ages 7-11 and have appropriate paperwork filled out to attend and bring own sleeping bag and personal supplies. Camp experience includes accommodations in well maintained cabin with counselor, meals, hiking, boating, swimming, crafts, skits, puppets, singing, basketball, volleyball, group games, camp fires and devotions. National Day of Prayer:
Prayer in the Square

In observance of the National Day of Prayer, Prayer in the Square will be held on Thursday, May 1, noon in Veterans Square, Bradford. The public is warmly invited to join clergy, public officials, and representatives of the fire and police departments in praying for the city, leaders and the nation. The event is estimated to last 45 minutes to accommodate lunch hour guests. In the event of inclement weather, it will be moved to Grace Lutheran Church, Mechanic Street. The event is in response to an invitation from the National Day of Prayer Task Force. The Task Force is a non-profit organization based in Colorado Springs, CO. There are more than 40,000 prayer gatherings taking place from coast to coast at a variety of venues and locations during the noon hour in each of our countries time zones. Warm Up to Winter

Destinations-Bradford Holding Blanket Giveaway Winter is here and so is the cold weather. Destinations-Bradford, in an effort to help with issues of the poor and marginalized, is holding a blanket giveaway Saturday, November 16 from noon to 4 pm at the Destinations-Bradford, Community Outreach Center, 1 Main Street. The program is provided in part by the Bradford Area Ministerium, Phi Beta Chi at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford and the Salvation Army. Various sized blankets are available in limited supply. Hot beverages and cookies are available. This program is offered along with the general outreach through Community Care program. Gardening Classes at Destinations-Bradford

Destinations-Bradford is hosting tow gardening programs taught by local Businessman and Homesteader, Jim Machuga. These classes are in addition to the general outreach programs already in place. Fall Planting- It’s Not Over “, will be held on Tuesday, September 17thh at 2:15pm. With this session you can learn what you can do to extend the fall growing and harvest time for your garden. Gardening can aide with healthy food choices, promote physical and social activity and help persons and families cut food expenses. “Preparing Your Garden For 2014”, is scheduled for Tuesday, October 15th at 2:15pm. What should you do to be ready for the 2014 growing season? Come and find out. It’s closer than you think. Both classes will be held at Destinations-Bradford, 1 Main Street. Overwhelming Response for Blanket Giveaway

Destinations-Bradford is holding a blanket giveaway, Saturday, November 17th between 10 am and 2 pm at the Community Outreach Center at 1 Main Street. Due to the overwhelming response from community members, additional blankets are now available to walk-in guests. Both twin and full/queen sized blankets are available while supplies last. Destinations-Bradford is holding a blanket giveaway November 17th at the Destinations-Bradford, Community Outreach Center at 1 Main Street. Both twin and full/queen sized blankets are available in limited supply. To qualify for receipt of blankets: Applicant must live within Bradford Area School District perimeters; be able to pick up on Nov. 17th between 10 am and 2 pm; must call to reserve (talk to live person-no voice messages); must meet income guidelines. Blankets will be available by reservation only. Outdoor Wear Giveaway

Destinations-Bradford is holding a outdoor wear giveaway September 25th - 27th from 1-4 pm. each day. This program is FREE and open to the public. This program is offered along with the general outreach through Community Care program. Gently used winter coats, hats, gloves and boots are available while supplies last. Donations are still being accepted throughout the giveaway and any remaining office hours. Remaining supply will be donated and distributed through the Salvation Army later this fall. The free shared clothing closet is scheduled on Wednesday, September 26th from 1-3pm in conjunction with the coat giveaway. Gently used and new clothing is available for all ages and sexes and genders and is available to individuals and their personal household. Destinations-Bradford Hosting Programs

Destinations-Bradford is hosting four programs in the month of September that are FREE and open to the public. These are offered along with the general outreach offered through Community Care program. The free shared clothing closet is scheduled on both Saturday, September 8th from 9am to 12 noon and Wednesday, September 26th from 1-3pm. Gently used and new clothing is available for all ages and sexes and genders and is available to individuals and their personal household. Veggie Gardening will be held on Wednesday, September 12th at 1pm at the Destinations-Bradford office and taught by Jim Machuga. No matter what size your farm, from patio to acres, this class helps newcomers to gardening learn the basics of composting, planting, maintenance and harvesting. Gardening can aide with healthy food choices, promote physical and social activity and help persons and families cut food expenses. Destinations-Bradford Hosting Classes

Destinations-Bradford is hosting two FREE educational components to the community: Gardening 101 and Habits for Abundant Living. Both classes are being taught by local resident and homesteader, Jim Machuga. Habits for Abundant Living will be held on Wednesday, August 8th at 2pm in the Destinations office. This class offers a guideline of life changing habits to take one from Dependence to an Independence state, helping individuals and families have a self sustaining lifestyle. Gardening 101 will be held on August 15th at 2pm at the Destinations-Bradford office. No matter what size your farm, from patio to acres, this class helps newcomers to gardening learn the basics of composting, planting, maintenance and harvesting. Gardening can aide with healthy food choices, promote physical and social activity and help persons and families cut food expenses. Both classes are FREE have limited seating.
