Two martial arts swords have been stolen from a Lewis Run home. Police say besides the swords a knife, boxes of .357 ammo, a chainsaw and cash were taken from Ash Court. Charges have been withdrawn against the Lewis Run man who had been cited for telling a DEP employee he was driving too fast on Chapel Fork Road in Lafayette Township. State Police had said 49-year-old Daniel Brinsky would be getting a citation for disorderly conduct. The incident happened on the afternoon of October 28. The charge was withdrawn last week. No one was hurt in a three-vehicle crash at just after 3 o’clock this afternoon on Route 219 in Lewis Run. Police say a car driven by 51-year-old Warren Goodman of New Market, Ontario, was stopped 66 feet south of Evans Drive, and a pickup truck driven by 46-year-old Cindy Reynolds of Bradford was slowing down as it approached the car. But a pickup truck driven by 22-year-old David O’Neil of Bradford didn’t stop and hit Reynolds’ pickup, which pushed it into Goodman’s car, causing disabling damage. A man accused of carrying a domestic incident from his estranged wife’s home to her workplace – and threatening to kill heer and three other people – has waived his preliminary hearing. Court papers say Anthony Hornung II of Lewis Run dragged the woman through the house by her arm, and said if he can’t have her no one can. He left the house when her roommates came home, but showed up later outside her workplace on Main Street in Bradford, threatening her boss and others. When police arrived, he ran to Players Bar, but police caught up with him. Hornung is in McKean County Jail on $50,000 bail. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

A 70-year-old Lewis Run man has pleaded guilty to exposing himself to exposing himself to at least one woman and numerous children back in August. James Hopkins admits to the incident that happened on the afternoon of August 4 at Chapman Dam State Park. He left after the woman confronted him. A sentencing date hasn’t been set yet. UPDATE (Friday morning): The fire is being considered suspicious, and Agosti says they are still investigating. City Fire Department Assistant Chief Rich Zmuda tells WESB that firefighters and four state police fire marshals -- three from PA and one from NY -- left the scene of the South Avenue fire at about 9 p.m. The cause is still under investigation and he expects PSP Cpl. Greg Agosti to issue a news release either later tonight or tomorrow. The New York fire marshal was called in because he has a fire-investigating dog whose services were needed. More than 40 firefighters from the city, Bradford Township and Derrick City battled the blaze at 103 South Avenue, starting at about 7:45 a.m. Neighbors heard an explosion shortly before that. The fire spread to 105 South Avenue, where it melted the siding and did other damage. No one was hurt. We'll pass along more information when we get it.

Bradford Regional Medical Center (BRMC) held a ceremony today for 11 graduates of the hospital’s School of Radiography. Earlier this month police got a report of a man exposing himself at Chapman State Park. Now they believe they have their man, and he’s from Lewis Run. The incident happened at 12:30 on the afternoon of August 4 when 70-year-old James Hopkins allegedly exposed himself to at least one woman and numerous children. He left after the woman confronted him. Police say a tip led them to Hopkins and further investigation led to charges of indecent exposure and open lewdness. Hopkins is free on $25,000 unsecured bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 10. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

Jean Ann Shields, 67, a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, of 15 W. Irvine St. Lewis Run, passed away Thursday, July 24, 2014, after a yearlong courageous battle with brain cancer. Born December 30, 1946 in Uniontown, she was the daughter of the late James Robinson and Ellen Jean (Metz) Hochstetler. Jean Ann was a 1964 graduate of South Union High School and a 1968 Home Economics graduate of Mansfield State College. She completed her Elementary certificate at Clarion University. On November 29, 1968, in the Falls City Baptist Church in Ohiopyle, she married James E. Shields Sr. who survives. She began her career as a second grade teacher at the Eldred Borough Elementary School in the Otto Eldred School District. In 1970 she began teaching in the Bradford Area School District. She taught second grade at M.J. Ryan School then in 1990 went to School Street Elementary from which she retired in 2003. Jean Ann was a 37 year member of the Lewis Run Volunteer Fire Departme...

A fallen tree outside a First Energy substation caused a brief power outage in Bradford and Lewis Run this afternoon. Penelec’s Linda Routzhan says the switching process to get the power back on caused some of the flickering lights. The outage started at about 1:45 and most people had their power restored by 2:30. Charges against a Lewis Run man accused of threatening a woman in Bradford have been bound to court. Jeffrey Buterbuagh is accused of driving past a Pearl Street home three times, pointing his finger at a woman as if it was a gun and yelling, “Bang, bang. Albert N. "Abbie" Montecalvo, 92, of 5 Irvine Street Lewis Run, passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at the Hamot Medical Center in Erie. Born in Lewis Run, on January 12, 1922, he was a son of the late V. James and Theresa (Capozzi) Montecalvo. On September 18, 1948 in Custer City he married E. Jean (McGraw) Montecalvo, who died, February 4, 1975. Abbie was a 1940 graduate of St. Bernard High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy on September 15, 1943, served during World War II and was honorably discharged on March 2, 1946. Later he attended Edinboro. He had been employed with Penelec for 30 years. He worked as a bartender at the Bradford Club and the Pennhills Club where he also served in the past as assistant General Manager. He was a member of Our Mother of Perpetual Help Church. Surviving are his longtime companion Tilly Smith with whom he resided; a daughter, Christie (the late John) Whitlow, of Lewis Run, two grandchildren, John N....

Longtime Lewis Run Mayor Abbie Montecalvo has passed away. Montecalvo started his life of public service to the borough more than 60 years ago as a council member, and then served as Mayor for 56 years, stepping down last year. Montecalvo decided not to run for another term has mayor after his lifelong friend and former borough council president Frank Langianese died in May of 2012. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes and will be announced later day. Pictured, State Rep. Two people were injured in a one-car crash late Tuesday afternoon on Route 219 in Lewis Run. State police say a car driven by 29-year-old Erica Lapp of Cyclone crossed the center line, went off the road and hit a tree. Lapp was flown to UPMC in Erie for treatment of moderate injuries. A passenger in the car, 26-year-old Matthew Kline of Bradford, was flown to ECMC in Buffalo for treatment of serious injuries. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

Another local teenager has been reported missing. 16-year-old Justin Hess of Cyclone was last seen at 11 p.m. February 22 at his grandmother’s house on Parkside Drive in Limestone. Justin is 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighs 140 pounds. He has short brown hair and brown eyes. He has been known to frequent the Bradford and Port Allegany areas. A Lewis Run man is accused of going into a 69-year-old man’s apartment and punching her. State police say 29-year-old Brian Wedge was drunk at 10:30 last night when he went into the man’s apartment without permission and punched him, causing lumps on the back of his head and other small cuts and abrasions. The assault ended in the public hallway/common area of the apartment complex when a neighbor intervened. Wedge is charged with burglary, criminal trespass and simple assault. He’s free on $10,000 unsecured bail and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on March 6. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

State police believe a 1999 Ford Taurus taken from Mount Jewett may be in the Bradford City or Lewis Run area. They say Michael Dance of Erie took the silver car between 1:30 Tuesday afternoon and 10 o’clock this morning and didn’t bring it back when owner Audrey Bell asked him to.
