More than 6,000 National Grid and NYSEG customers were without power in the Southern Tier last night, and a handful of customers are still waiting for their power to be restored. Heavy winds in Cattaraugus and Chautauqua counties are believed to be the cause of the outages. The outages started at around 6 p.m., and most power was restored by 11 p.m. The Seneca Allegany Casino in Salamanca was running on back-up generators all night. The National Weather Service has issued Lake Effect Snow Advisories for Chautauqua, Cattaraugus and Warren counties. The advisory in New York, which includes the cities of Jamestown and Olean, is in effect until 6 o’clock tomorrow morning.
