Liberty Twp. Gets Grant for Water, Sewer Services

HARRISBURG – The Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) has awarded a $1.54 million grant to Liberty Township, McKean County, for much-needed infrastructure improvements that will help promote job growth in the area, Sen. Joe Scarnati (R-Brockway) and Rep. Martin Causer (R-Turtlepoint) announced today. Specifically, the grant will help fund the extension of sewer and water services from Port Allegany Borough to portions of Liberty Township, including the Portage Industrial Park and surrounding residential and commercial properties. It also will support replacement of existing infrastructure in Port Allegany to increase capacity at the borough’s treatment plant. “This grant not only helps fulfill a current need in the community but also makes an important investment in our future,” Causer said. “We cannot grow and expand job opportunities for our citizens without the necessary infrastructure. PSP Looking for Burglary, Theft Victims

State police are looking for more victims of a burglary and theft ring operating in and around McKean County. The men accused of operating the ring are Trevor Elder, Adam Bachman, Cameron Causer, Mark Schneider, Nathan Hoy, Garrett Hoy and Austin Tankersley. Police are asking anyone who bought items from any of these to contact them because there’s a possibility the items were stolen. Among the items stolen were chainsaws, ATVs and dirt bikes, and they were taken from the Borough of Smethport as well as Keating, Liberty, Norwich and Annin townships. Arrests have been made in some of the crimes are more arrests are pending. Angelo Edges Out Newhouse

It appears George Hocker has defeated current Foster Township Supervisor Chairman John Sullivan by a count of 431 to 308 in today’s election. Bradford Township Supervisor Gayle Bauer, however, held off her challenger Richard Yovichin by a count of 410 to 248. It appears Michael Angelo squeaked by Timothy Newhouse in the race for Lafayette Township supervisor by a vote of 58 to 56. In Liberty Township, Fred Ernst defeated Charles Safford by a vote of 106 to 84. Election results are not official until the Board of Elections certifies them on Friday.
